Dust & Neon is an action game from David Marquardt Studios that takes you on an adventure in a futuristic Wild West. This title falls under the umbrella of shoot ‘em up games with its twin-stick shooter mechanism; however, it adds a challenging twist by making use of roguelite elements.

Similar to games like EVERSPACE 2, Dust & Neon presents you with a wide selection of weapons and items that you can switch between in order to beat powerful enemies. The opponents you face will progressively grow stronger as you defeat more of them, as well.

Watch out for enemies that surround you

You’ll need to duck, cover, and shoot in Dust & Neon as you come across large hordes of enemies coming from all angles. In this Western shooter, players will be thrust into a battlefield filled with robot enemies. Here, you will have to explore the four different regions and collect loot boxes and bounties that you can use to upgrade your arsenal and buy upgrades for your character. 

With over 2,000 weapons, 1,600 tonics, and 24 unique skills, different players will be able to experience varied gameplay due to the effect of the different items and abilities you grant your character. You’ll have to capitalize on these elements of the game and tailor your arsenal when going up against enemies, as each opponent has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Players can also look forward to high-quality graphics that further enhance the immersive experience this indie title brings. However, the latter half of the game can feel quite repetitive and boring to players, especially with the limited variety of actions you have to perform. Although the enemies grow stronger over time, certain bosses can come off too easy to defeat, as well.

Dust & Neon is a promising title with a unique premise and hours' worth of gameplay to look forward to. However, there are some improvements that could be made when it comes to the difficulty level of the latter bosses and the lack of additional tasks that could further enhance the game’s overall experience. Meanwhile, you can still enjoy exploring the different gameplay styles and four unique areas to explore.
